Little Miss Sunshine

little_miss_sunshine.jpgThere are good movies, great movies, entertaining movies, interesting movies and something else. Some pearls on celluloid. Most times tragic comedies like Garden State, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or Sideways. Those are movies I love. I don’t know wht they have, but they have it.

Yesterday I finally saw Little Miss Sunshine. Highly expected since I saw the first trailer I somehow missed in the cinemas. I had the movie at home already for quite a long time, but somehow we never managed to watch it. Until yesterday. And I was blasted. Such a great fun, great characters (the heroine-sniffing grandpa, the brother with a vow of silence, the loser-father who gives success-seminars, the suicidal brother …). The story is full of little jokes and sidekicks to society. Well, I love this movie. 10 out of 10 points.

Sziget Festival 2007

chemical_brothers.jpgWeehee! I’ve been to another festival. This time I made it to the Sziget Festival in Budapest again. I’ve already been there in 2003 and enjoyed it very much. But I already forgot it’s more like a big international camp than a festival. I really liked the scene, the variety, the whole thing.

Plus there were some really cool bands. Like THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS (great performance, second highlight this summer after The Smashing Pumpkins on novarock), P!nk, Nine Inch Nails, IAMX, Goldie (actually I didn’t see him, our tent was right next to the tent he did his performance, so I heard quite a lot … scary man!), … great stuff. Unfortunately the weather was a littlebit unsteady and I always had the wrong clothes with me, but hey, that’s festival feeling! I’m quite sure I will do that again.

Live Free Or Die Hard

die_hard4.jpgLots of movie-posts recently. It’s not like I don’t do anything else, but … hell I do hardly nothing else than working and going to the cinemas. This time I was finally to the fourth part of Die Hard. I almost missed that one … it was the last showing at 8pm!

I really liked the first three parts. Part 3 is among the best action movies I’ve ever seen. So I didn’t expect much. Willis is old. Part three was so packed with action it couldn’t possibly be topped. But it could. Part four is … wow … now I can’t imagine how there could be more extreme action. McClane shoots Helicopters with cars, lands a helicopter in front of a house in the suburbs and jumps on a flying jet fighter.

It is a movie packed with action. Don’t think, don’t discuss, just watch and enjoy. 7 out of 10 points.

The Illusionist

illusionist.jpgLast weekend I saw another movie that never made it to the mayor cinemas in Central Europe. Nevertheless it was again a good movie. Oh … by the way. I’m talking about “The Illusionist“. I’ve been a fan of Edward Norton ever since I saw him in Primal Fear. He is defenitely one of the best actors in Hollywood. Unfortunately he did “The Italian Job“, but the other movies on his cv are between pretty good and close to genius (eg. Fight Club, American History X).

The Illusionist fits to his list. I really enjoyed the movie, with some neat twists in the story. I was suprised how I liked Jessica Biel … as much as I like Norton as less I expect from her. Anyway, 8 out of 10 points for the illusionist from the ape.
